Why Yukon Men and Salesmen are the SAME. (Almost)
I spent the weekend with my Alaska obsessed father. Every summer he spends 1-2 weeks in Alaska fishing, hunting, and getting away from everyday life. It’s safe to say he LOVES Alaska and from what I’ve seen, what’s not to love? It’s absolutely beautiful.
To feed his addiction for Alaska he watches every reality show available on the subject. One of his favorites is called Yukon Men which follows several families located in the most northern territory of the United States.

As I sat and watched the show I thought to myself, “I would NEVER put up with that crap.” As I continued my thought process, I realized I “put up with that crap” EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. In fact, apart from sales, I don’t know of another profession in this world that is more similar to that of the Yukon Mountain men.
Think about it… if your pantry (bank account) is empty, what do you do? You go out and KILL (sell) something so your family doesn’t go without. Some days you hunt (prospect) all day and kill (sell) nothing, while other days the kill comes quickly and easily. Sometimes your kill (sell) a giant moose and sometimes it’s a tiny squirrel. The wonderful thing about being a Yukon Mountain man or a superstar salesman is that you depend on nobody but yourself for your success. If you want to live and eat like a king, you go out and get it. If there isn’t enough, you have nobody to blame but yourself. So if there is one career motto that all salesmen should live by, its this… Go out and KILL something! |
